What did Patch 1.4.0 change about The Weight?
The Weight is the enemy that hunts you through the game's stealth sections. KONAMI's notes for Patch 1.4.0 list four changes; the grab change applies to Story Mode and Normal only.
- On Story Mode and Normal, its grab now deals heavy damage instead of killing you outright.
- It no longer waits in front of your objective for long periods.
- It no longer keeps searching one location and staying there.
- It tracks the player less aggressively while hunting.
Stealth changes and tips that still apply
Beyond The Weight, Patch 1.4.0 made enemies react less to the sound of running, gunfire and entering a hiding space, less likely to counterattack after you land a melee hit, and — apart from The Weight — unable to grapple you while you block with a melee weapon. The game's own systems and trophy list point to the tools that keep you hidden:
- Hiding spots: one trophy (Isolating Experience) asks you to stay in one for 60 seconds, per KeenGamer's trophy list.
- Thrown bottles and bricks distract enemies or stun them briefly, per Wikipedia's gameplay summary.
- Radios work as distractions (Static Distractions, 10 uses), and hitting a car sets off an alarm that draws enemies (Alarmingly Effective).
- The CRTV device picks up nearby enemies through walls and obstacles, per the official hands-on coverage.
- Since Patch 1.4.0, entering a hiding space is quieter — enemies react less to it.
Which puzzles did the patch touch?
Two Part 6 changes matter to puzzle answers: the Remote Systems Control console's instructions became a manual you can read while using the panel, and the Aux Line pipe layout was redrawn. No lock code changed — the alarm keypad A5D7, panel E3E3 and AUX locker 0825 are unchanged, all on the codes page. The console's camera numbers still disagree between walkthroughs; both readings are kept in the walkthrough.
Do you ever fight The Weight?
Yes, at the end of the game: the trophy Eraser unlocks for defeating The Weight as Simon, per KeenGamer's trophy list. The sources used here do not say whether it can be killed earlier, so nothing on this page claims either way.
