Big Walk Beginner Guide: Your First Co-op Session

What is Big Walk?

Big Walk is an online cooperative adventure developed by House House — the studio behind Untitled Goose Game — and published by Panic, released August 4, 2026 for Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. You explore a shared world with friends, solve challenges and use tools to keep in contact; gestures and the way sound travels are part of the experience, and the official press kit describes a world that makes cooperation central to progress.

The adventure has an ending, alongside space to explore at your own pace. Insider Gaming's Josh Challies tracked about 8 hours for the main route and about 15 with the endgame puzzles in a two-player session (August 4, 2026); House House has published no official length, and a larger group can split up, so plan a stopping time instead of promising to finish in one evening.

1. Choose the group and check platforms

Ask each player which device they will use, whether they have installed the game and when they expect to finish. Resolve solo-play and shared-screen expectations before the first purchase: there is no single-player mode (player limits) and no same-screen co-op — everyone plays on their own device (platforms).

2. Let the host load first

Use a person who can return for later sessions, because the host keeps the save. Have them open the save and enter the world before others try to join. Since version 1.4.9, session passwords are required; version 1.6.0 adds letters to join codes. Where the code lives and how each platform joins is on the join code page, and mixed-platform groups should check the crossplay rules.

3. Agree on a spoiler boundary

One person reading ahead can turn a shared discovery into a set of instructions for everyone else. Our recommendation: describe what you see before announcing an answer, and if somebody already knows a solution, ask them to offer a question or a small nudge instead. The puzzle help is built the same way — every solution sits behind a Nudge, Approach, Solution ladder you open one step at a time.

Try the communication setup early. The game is built around in-game voice and text chat, so if someone is hard to hear, troubleshoot before the group reaches a challenge rather than during it.

4. Leave a note for next time

Before stopping, record your host, last landmark and next experiment. Avoid copying a full solution into a group message if some players have not seen it. A short shared note preserves the excitement while making the next session easier to start — the mechanics of resuming are in how hosting works.
