Big Walk Join Code: Where to Find It & Join Friends
On this page
Joining a friend's session
The host keeps the save; everyone else joins that open session. The official FAQ's connect-to-a-friend answer is the source for the flow below.
- Have the host start first: they create or load the world before anyone else can appear.
- Look on the friends list, or ask for a join code: if you are already friends on that platform, the host game should show up automatically; if not, ask for the short code generated when the session starts.
- Use the fresh join code and the required session password: the host finds the code in the corner of the host menu, or later under Session Details. Share both privately.
Why is it asking for a password?
Session passwords have been required since version 1.4.9, per the official version history — older FAQ wording predates the change. Version 1.6.0 added letters to join codes, so a modern code is alphanumeric; type it exactly as the host sees it. If a code is rejected, ask the host to re-open Session Details and read out a fresh one.
How each platform joins
| Platform | How joining works |
|---|---|
| Steam (Windows/Mac) | If you are already Steam friends, the host session should appear automatically; otherwise use the short join code, then the session password |
| PlayStation 5 | The host starts the session before anyone looks for it; friends join from the friends / active games list, or enter the join code |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | The host loads the save and stays in the session; friends look for the active host game or enter the join code |
| Mac (App Store) | This version does not show a Game Center friends list — skip it and use the join code directly |
If the session still does not appear
- Check that the first two version numbers match across the group — the rule and examples are on the crossplay page.
- Add the host as a friend on that platform first, or ask them for the join code.
- If you continue later, the same host has to open the same save — see hosting.
