Big Walk Crossplay: Supported Platforms & Version Rules
On this page
Which platforms play together?
The official FAQ confirms crossplay between the supported platforms: Steam (Windows and Mac), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. The host still starts first — crossplay changes who can join, not the hosting order. Xbox, PS4 and the original Switch are not supported versions, so they cannot join either; the current list is on the platforms page.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is crossplay supported? | Yes — Steam, PS5, Switch 2 and Mac share one session |
| Version rule | The first two version numbers must match; the last can differ |
| Mac App Store quirk | No Game Center friends list — the host shares the join code instead |
| Who hosts? | Any one player; the host keeps the save (hosting) |
The version-number rule
A version like 1.2.3 only needs 1.2 to match — the last number can differ. In practice: everyone on the same automatic update is fine; a player who has not updated while others have may be locked out until they patch. If a friend's session does not appear, compare the first two version numbers before trying anything else.
The Mac App Store catch
The Mac App Store version does not show a Game Center friends list, so friends-list joining does not work there. The host needs to share the session code directly — where to find it is on the join code page.
Crossplay is not cross-buy
These are different questions. Crossplay is about joining a session from different supported systems; a purchase entitlement is controlled by the store. Buying on Steam does not grant the PlayStation or Switch 2 edition, so check each player's platform before a group purchase — the supported list and what to verify are on the platforms page.
