Can You Play Big Walk Solo? Player Limits Explained

What are the player limits?
The official FAQ's players answer, checked October 8, 2026: minimum 2, maximum 12, no single-player mode, no automatic matchmaking. Being able to start a session alone does not make the cooperative campaign a supported solo experience — communication between players is a core mechanic, not an convenience.

The 2, 3 or 4+ world setting
When the host starts a save, they choose a 2, 3 or 4+ player world. That changes how the world and its puzzles are tuned — a 2-player world configures challenges for a pair — but it does not cap the session, and extra friends can still join. If only some of your group can stay for a whole session, pick the lower setting before starting; you cannot rely on a bigger number to keep everyone busy. What if nobody else is online?
Arrange a time with at least one other player before buying for a solo evening — an evening alone is the one thing Big Walk cannot deliver. If you find a group through a community, agree on language, approximate session length and spoiler preferences first, and keep join details within that group. The official site is the starting point for where the game is sold on each platform, and mixed-system groups should check the crossplay rules.
Solo is not the same question as split screen
"Two-player game" describes the size of the group, not how many people share a screen. Big Walk has no same-screen co-op at all — every player needs their own device and their own copy. Do not plan a one-console game night around a second controller; plan an online session instead.
